
Steve Toomey is an Employment Counselor with the Florida National Guard Employment Support Program. He plays a pivotal role in the lives of veterans and their families. The Florida National Guard Employment Support Program exists to develop and promote employment opportunities for Guardsman and Reservists.
Steve spent 24 years in military service in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Marine Medical Field Corpsman, Medical Logistics and Administrative Officer.
A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Steve currently makes his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Outside his official IGH duties, Steve finds ways to support veterans. He is a volunteer with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a DoD agency that is comprised of a broad community-based volunteer network. He also counts 10 years as a CSX Railroad Military Talent Advisor, helping to hire more than 3,000 veterans.

Q. How does IGH help you grow professionally?
A. IGH allows me to hone my existing Human Resource skills to assist over 1,000 Veterans and their family members to find meaningful employment through evaluation, education, practice and recommendations to employer partners.
Q. How did your military service prepare you for your current career?
A. My background as a Field Medic and Military Human Resource Officer prepared me to assess employment situations, recommend changes to resumes, train candidates on interview skills and to upgrade their networking skills, leading to employment opportunity.
Q. What would you tell someone considering a career at IGH?
A. IGH is a fantastic organization where they provide needed guidance but allow you to use your skills and experience to obtain results.
