Tom Hanks joins Dale Dye's D-Day movie as executive producer

A Vietnam combat veteran who became an iconic Hollywood military adviser will take his first turn in the director’s chair for an upcoming war movie, and he’s got some star power lined up behind the camera.

Dale Dye, a retired Marine Corps captain who earned a Bronze Star with combat “V” device and three Purple Hearts before lending military know-how to “Platoon,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “Forrest Gump,” has enlisted Tom Hanks to serve as an executive producer of “No Better Place to Die,” the story of an 82nd Airborne Division mission in June 1944 that’s set to hit theaters in June 2019.
